Johnson Architecture - Rowell Building
Johnson Architecture - Project List
Rowell Building
Fresno, California

The new owners of the Rowell Building faced several issues in assuming their responsibilities as caretakers of this historic structure. Proposals to address these issues were organized as discrete projects. They included plans for much needed in-building parking and an exterior renovation designed to provide for successful ground floor retail.

Plans for a complete ground floor building renovation were implemented. A modernization and street widening in the 1960’s removed all ground floor historic fabric and placed a modern storefront system across the entire street level. This modern system was removed and replaced with a restored brick, glass and marble facade.

The once vacant ground floor is now 70% leased and has set a new standard for the buildings future.
